Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the championship lead from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, trailing with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
The veteran ended the session in P19, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, over half a second off the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
