Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on 14 separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
